Geothermal Leasing Panel Event
November 17, 2004 - Sacramento,
California
Additional Information
Invitation
The National Geothermal Collaborative
(NGC) is sponsoring a Geothermal Leasing Panel Event in Sacramento,
California, on November 17. It will be held from 12:00 pm – 5:30 pm at
the Embassy Hotel, 100 Capital Mall, Sacramento, California, 95815,
(916) 326-5000. The purpose of the panel event is to leverage success
stories from some offices into practical applications in others,
problem-solve around common barriers and challenges to the leasing
process, share experiences with geothermal leasing from agency and
consultant perspectives and to explore where, and how the process could
be improved. The event is expected to yield a report, potentially with
recommendations, which will be used as the basis for further dialogues
with decision makers to implement process improvements. Invited
panelists include representatives from the Bureau of Land Management
from California, Idaho, Nevada and Oregon/Washington, United States
Forest Service, and consultants from MHA Environmental Consulting,
Environmental Management, and Stoel Rives.
The NGC is a consensus-based
collaborative, which was formed in 2002 to identify issues that impede
the use of geothermal power, establish dialogue among key stakeholders,
and catalyze appropriate activities to overcome obstacles to appropriate
development. The NGC is led by a steering committee whose membership
to-date includes representation from both investor owned and public
utilities, academia, state energy offices, White House Task Force on
Energy Project Streamlining, Western resource Advocates, Council of
Energy Resource Tribes, geothermal industry organizations (Geothermal
Resource Council and Geothermal Energy Association), Council of Energy
Resource Tribes, Departments of Interior (Bureau of Land Managers),
Agriculture (Forest Service) and Energy, and the National Conference of
State Legislatures.
I believe that the NGC is a powerful
resource for BLM's geothermal program. If at all possible, I would
encourage you to attend and participate in the upcoming panel event.
Questions about the event should be directed to Ms. Jody Erikson of
Resolve, Inc., at 303-318-4765.
